Narnia ... the land between the lamp-post and the Castle of Cair Paravel, where animals talk, where magical things happen ... and where the adventure begins.

Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy are returning to boarding school when they are summoned from the dreary train station (by Susan's own magic horn) to return to the land of Narnia -- the land where they had ruled as kings and queens and where their help is desperately needed.

Christmas brings out the best and the worst in us, as can be seen in this evocative anthology. Among what Thomas Love Peacock calls the 'many poetical charms in the heraldings of Christmas' there are eulogies by saints and diatribes from curmudgeons. Here, Christmas is expounded by divines, sung by rustics, deplored by philosophers, made mystical in stories and summed up in a line by the poet Elizabeth Jennings: 'The hush, the star, the baby, people being kind again'.

This collection includes complete versions of such old favourites as 'The Little Match Girl', 'The Night Before Christmas', 'Ring out Wild Bells' and 'Christmas Day in the Workhouse'. But there are also discoveries: a sermon by Lancelot Andrewes, an account of Christmas under the Puritans, a first, poverty-stricken Christmas in turn of the century New York and a Mummer's Play. Adding the final touch is the music: from traditional Christmas carols and Corelli to Benjamin Britten. On this recording, Christmas past brings alive Christmas present.

The Colonial Radio Theatre pulls out all the stops in this magnificent production of the Charles Dickens classic! Newly recorded in 2004 (from their original 1998 script), "A Christmas Carol" is a great match for radio theatre, and CRT has remained faithful to the book in every way. Jeffrey Gage has created one of his finest music scores - from the powerful, booming opening of "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen," to the frightening tones of the Ghost of Christmas Future; add a fantastic cast, a couple of hundred sound effects,(you supply the egg nog) and you have a holiday treat for all ages.
Excellent in everyway

This program is the ultimate in Christmas oriented audio theater. The music score is awesome, the acting and sound effects superb. The Colonial Radio Theatre folks were very true to the book, and have included sections that are almost universally edited out. This does not hurt the flow of the story at all. Dickens was a master, and this his masterpiece. Download this one and you will be very very impressed... Merry Christmas everyone!

I love this story and can't get enough of it. It is so great to hear it read to me. If you have been saying you were going to start a family tradition, this would be the one to begin. Gather the family and listen to the telling of Dicken's classic!

A classic Charles Dickens story set on New Years Eve - with the haunted chimes in a church tower.

I really enjoyed this program...The only reason that I did not give it a full five stars has more to do with Dickens than the Colonial Radio Theatre. They did a great job bringing this quirky holiday to life. Once again, a superb musical score and fine acting make this a very special piece of holiday fare.
